Dr. R.M. Manickavasagam is a retired Professor from Earth Sciences and Institute Instrumentation Center, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. He started his teaching career for undergraduate students of geology at one of the University colleges in Tamil Nadu for about six years. During that time, he taught various geology subjects, including theory, practical and field training. Later after obtaining a doctoral degree in geology, he moved to IIT, where he taught postgraduate students and guided Ph.D. scholars in the specialized field of metamorphic petrology, ore geology and geochemistry for more than two decades. Due to his vast experience in theoretical and practical knowledge in these subjects, the book is written comprehensively for the benefit of geology students.
