This is the first comprehensive work on the Indian pipunculids after Brunetti's in 1923. The importance of these flies as biocontrol agents of homopteran pests, especially those of rice, is being greatly felt now. Since the fauna of these flies was very poorly known in India, the flies were never tried for such purpose. The present work which includes 91 species from India under 6 genera will not only enable workers to identify the desired species for their proper manipulation as biocontrol agents but also be useful in discovering more and more pipunculid species.

Dr. V. C. Kapoor has already written 7 books. He has over 125 research articles to his credit. He has vast experience in dipteran taxonomy. Presently, he is Professor of Zoology at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
Dr. J. S. Grewal has published about 30 research articles in Journals of International repute besides one monograph. He has a good experience in dipteran taxonomy. Presently, he is Assistant Zoologist (Taxonomy) at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
Dr. S. K. Sharma has done good work on the taxonomy of pipunculid flies. He has published research papers in reputed journals. Presently, he is Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Zoology at Punjab Agricultural, University, Ludhiana.
