History of India: Vol.1 (Upto 1206 A.D.) Vol.2 (1206 to 1773) Vol.3 (1773 to Lord Minto) Vol.4 (upto 20th Century)

About the Book History of India, the monumental four-volume work, offers an elaborate and chronological account of Indian history from the earliest times to the present period. It endeavors to give, without prolixity, a statement of the relevant facts at present available, both in regard to the origin of the more important Indian races, and in regard to their progress before they came under the unifying processes of modern administration. It also includes the brief relation of the unprecedented series of events under which a remote commercial people have begun to weld those races into a single nationality. This volume, which pays special attention to the reigns of the great Indian monarchs, such as Chandragupta Maurya, Asoka, Kanishka, Samudra Gupta, Chandra Gupta II (Vikramaditya), and Harsha, adequately highlights the achievements of their reigns in a manner that is bound to arouse not only curiosity but also provoke reflection. Full attention has been given to the cultural, religious, and social conditions of India during the 6th century B.C. This volume also portrays the golden age of Guptas, the general administration of the Cholas, and the flourishing culture of the Pallavas. This comprehensive yet reasonably sized four-volume work on Indian history will prove to be of immediate interest and relevance not only to students and teachers of Indian history, but also to the general reader.
