An Anthology of Socio-Political Issues: Some Insights on Critical Thinking is a direct extension of the founding philosophy of the Association for Discussion on Society and Politics (ADSP). The Association emerged in 2020 in response to the disruptions caused by the pandemic, championed by the students of Berhampore College and neighbouring institutions. Their mission was to restore the flow of academic discourse by offering a plethora of webinars and online lectures, democratising access to theoretical knowledge. The book is an anthology of varied socio-political themes, authored by established academics and budding scholars. It delves into subjects such as postmodernism and religious fundamentalism, the impact of globalisation on state dynamics, the politics of language in George Orwell's literary classics 1984 and Animal Farm, the exposure of developmental violence through alternative media in West Bengal, the historical significance of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the tumultuous trajectory of the Sino-Indian relationship.The chapters provide a comprehensive overview of contemporary socio-political issues, analysed through multidisciplinary lenses and elucidated with meticulous case studies and close theoretical readings.
